Address Concerning The London Attacks; On behalf of the Foreign Consulate of Arda en' Estel

Not even forty-eight hours ago, three attackers drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge before continuing to Borough Market and launching a knife attack there, where they were subdued by police. Seven people were murdered by these terrorists, and forty-eight more injured.

I did not know any of those people, but I am from London, I have friends in London both within NationStates and without, some of whom were dangerously close and could have been killed, had it not been for the brave work of the Metropolitan Police. It is my duty, therefore, as Consul of Foreign Affairs for Arda en' Estel, to issue a statement on the matter.

I will not speak of why these terrorists chose to murder in that way - but the Islamic State organisation has claimed responsibility and must therefore be regarded as linked. I will not speak of what measures might be taken to stop three nutters with a Transit - it would demean both myself and my post were I to so brazenly politicise such an awful tragedy. Instead, I express my disgust at their actions, just as I would with any murderer's actions. I offer my condolences to those killed and wounded by this attack, just as I would any victim of murder, attempted or otherwise.

We do not defend our freedoms by restricting them. We do not fight hate with fear. It is incumbent upon all of us to - as the posters say - "Keep Calm and Carry On," as we as a nation were asked to do when our nation, our culture, our freedoms were threatened by a force far greater than three nutters in a Transit.

I wish to once again express our support for London and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in these troubled times, as they go into a general elections marred not by one but two terrorist attacks, and I would close this address with a statement from one of my friends, who had this to say yesterday:

Quote:

Given today's date it seems fitting to remember that at a time when many people will have the understandable impulse to react with anger at this crime, to instead call for calm are not acting from naivite, or apathetic fatalism, or cowardice, or any human failing. Nor is peace some fragile glass sculpture born of human virtue. Almost two thousand years ago on this day, the human race discovered that peace, and joy, and love, and patience, and kindness, and goodness, and faithfulness, and gentleness, and self-control, are not signs of weakness. They are fruits grown from flame and power and strength, from fire sent blazing down from heaven to the hearts of men, spoken in every tongue to every race and nation. When you see the dove of peace, the symbol that comes from that Holy Spirit, remember that peace is aflame with power.
